Dumpling Shots!

Dumpling Shots!

These whiskey shots are poured into a wonton wrapper that was steamed into a dumpling shape as a shot glass! It was a crazy idea, and took a bit of trial and error, but I got it working great by the end! And who doesn’t love an edible shot glass?

The inspiration for this recipe

I have been creating shots out of different foods recently. So far I tried deviled egg shots, and potato shots, and next on my list was some sort of dumpling shot. I tried several different methods for making the wonton wrapper shot glasses

Make the wonton wrapper shot glasses

Wet one side of the wonton wrapper, then take your time making small pleats, folding the wrapper onto itself over and over. Eventually the cavity will form and you will begin to see the dumpling shots take shape

Then press it into a shot glass to further form the shape.

Steam the dumpling shot glasses

Set up a steamer and add the shot glasses. Fyi- you should use ones with no logo or it is possible the logo stuff will come off in the steamer. I steamed the wontons for 8 minutes in the glasses, then 5 minutes upside down in the glasses, then for 5 more minutes right side up after I took them out of the glasses. Sfter that they will be ready for dumpling shots!

Serve the dumpling shots

Add the alcohol and other ingredients to a shaker. I was sort of channeling a spicy/savory hot toddy. But cold of course. Whiskey, hot honey, soy sauce, and lemon. You could also do a mai tai inspired shot with rum, orange liqueur, lime juice, and almond syrup.

You could either just pop the whole thing into your mouth, or take the shot and use the wrapper as a chaser!

Twists and tips for dumpling shots

I did my dumpling shot glasses in two batches. I did a quick re-steam of the first batch when the second batch was just about ready. Some of the wrappers broke as I was making them when they got too dry, so make sure to keep them in between some damp paper towels as you go!
