Hot Honey Salami Baked Beans

These spicy sweet hot honey baked beans have lots of salami in them, and a sauce with classic bbq flavors. I love making baked beans from dried beans. It is so satisfying and delicious! Bring these beans to a summer backyard party and everyone will be so excited! I feel like beans can be the best side dish at a BBQ spot, but they are so easy to make just as good at home but people don’t do it!
The inspiration for this recipe
I try to make a new baked bean recipe most summers. This idea came to me randomly because I had a lot of leftover salami and hot honey, and some dried beans in the cabinet. I am trying to be inspired by leftover ingredients more lately, to not let things go to waste and naturally come up with new recipes, not try and force them. I saw this post about it recently and have been thinking about it a lot!
Add all the ingredients to a baking dish
Soak the beans overnight then rinse them. Next, add them to a baking dish with onions, garlic, jalapenos, salami, and broth.

Then add some of the flavorings like tomato puree, worcestershire, cider vinegar, lots of honey, molasses, soy sauce, and maple syrup.

Season the beans
I used gochugaru, chipotle, cumin, oregano, salt, and pepper as the main seasonings.

Bake the salami hot honey beans
Add some olive oil, stir, and bake! I baked mine at 275 for about 6 hours, stirring every hour or so.

Serve the salami hot honey baked beans
After cooking, stir and serve! These are incredible! So much depth of flavor and all that flavors is soaked right into the beans.

I know it’s a side dish but I ate it as my main dinner a few times that week!

Twists on hot honey baked beans
You could keep these hot honey baked beans vegetarian if you wanted to. I would just add a little more salt. Maybe consider diced mushrooms too, but I would saute them before adding them to the mix, or else I think they might just melt away into the sauce. If you like it less spicy, cut down the gochugaru, chipotle, and jalapeno in the recipe.

- 2 tablespoons chipotle powder
- 1 tablespoon cumin
- 1 tablespoon oregano

- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Add the beans to a bowl and cover with water so that there is about 4 inches of water above the beans. Cover and let sit overnight
- Drain and rinse the beans. Remove any that are just the husk or seem overly broken or weird.
- Add the beans to a baking dish and add all the remaining ingredients. Stir to combine.
- Put the beans into the oven at 275. Bake about 6 hours, stirring once every hour or so. Add more liquid if you need to. Cook until the beans are tender.
