Hot Dog Cheese Fries

Hot Dog Cheese Fries

This epic loaded hot dog cheese fries is inspired by the peruvian dish salchipapa. I translates to sausage and potato, but it is basically hot dogs on top of french fries with some sauces. I used that as a jumping off point to create this amazing loaded french fry dish that used up all my summer leftover hot dogs!

The inspiration for this recipe

The Vulgar Chef and myself do a live stream together every wednesday called “Weiner Wednesday” on TikTok. Last week I was trying to think of what I would make for the stream and I saw Salchipapa on our table of contents for the hot dog book we are working on. I had a mismatch of hot dogs in the fridge, as one does towards the end of summer, and I wanted to use them up. I realized this would be the perfect recipe for it!

Prep the hot dogs

Dig the various hot dogs out of the fridge and freezer, then cut them on a bias to form coin shapes. Slice the onion as thin as you can so it browns up quick.

Cooking the hot dogs and onions

Start the onions and give them at least 5 minutes before adding the sliced hot dogs. Crank up the heat so everything gets browned and delicious.

Build the hot dog cheese fries

Get the french fries down first. Then drizzle on some queso. I used store bought queso today. Next top the french fries with the hot dogs, onions, and even more cheese!

Salchipapa is often served with slaw on the side so I added some right on top. Then a sauce of ketchup, mayo, mustard and sriracha. Finally top the hot dog cheese fries with jalapeno and scallions.

Serve the hot dog cheese fries

That’s it! Serve the hot dog cheese fries with forks and lots of extra sauce on the side.
