Tostones Sliders

Tostone Burger

I love making tostones, and I don’t make them nearly enough!
First fry them to lightly brown on all sides.

Then smoosh them.  I usually use a place and just press it down on each one. Make them somewhat thick because you are going to need to slice them in half later.

The second fry is when they get really crispy.

Like I just said, slice them in half to form the bun. Be careful when you do this step!

Form your sliders to be the same size as the tostones.  Cook a few minutes on each side to brown.

I wanted these somewhat simple.  I just used salt and pepper on the burgers, and I topped them with some cheddar, a pickle, and a splash of hot sauce.

So good!  I had these on a nice day in Boston with my sisters!  These were a perfect snack before we started drinking and headed to a Red Sox game!

The hot sauce is a must for me when tostones are involved.  That and the pickle give just enough vinegar flavor to cut through the savory burger and tostone.

Make these this weekend!

Tostones Sliders

These mini burgers have tostones as the bun! They are perfect sliders for your next get together.

Ingredients

  • 2 Green Plantains
  • Oil for Frying
  • Ground Beef
  • Cheese
  • Hot Sauce
  • Pickles

Instructions

  • Peel the plantains and chop them into about 2 inch long pieces. Shallow fry the pieces on all sides until lightly browned. Smash them one by one to form the tostones shape. Fry again to brown and crisp up. Remove from oil and lightly salt. Carefully slice them in half to form your buns.
  • Form burger patties the same size as your burger rounds. Salt and pepper. Sear them on high heat for a few minutes a side. Add the cheese. Remove from heat. Put them onto the bottom tostone half, top with a pickle and some hot sauce, and serve!

    1. It depends on how ripe they are and how long you fry them. I don’t think you need them to be perfect circles though.
