Peach and Sausage Deep Dish Pizza
This time of the year I put peaches on everything, and I was blown away by how good they tasted in this deep dish pizza with sausage and basil! Sweet complexity from the peaches, salty depth of flavor from the sausage. All packed in a buttery flaky deep dish crust! Peach and basil together tastes like summertime and this is the perfect pizza for a late summer backyard get together.
The inspiration for this recipe.
I have been thinking a lot lately about savory versions of the classic peaches and cream combination. Peach and ricotta, peach and burrata- that kind of flavor pairing. I was thinking of a peach and ricotta pizza but I ended up swapping it to mozzarella and loading it up with sausage. Mainly because I thought it would be a dream pizza for Georgina. Finally a drizzle of hot honey brought it all together!
Make the dough first
Knead the dough, then let it rise. Then you roll out the dough, and spread it with butter, then roll it back up. This gives it the buttery flaky texture! This photo is after the second rise, you can see the dough is rolled up in the first photo, and in the other photos, you can see the layers of dough and butter. At this point, roll out the deep dish pizza crust and add it to the pan.
Make sure to press it into a greased pan so the bottom is flat and even, and the side crust is formed.
Add the peaches and sausage to the deep dish pizza
Start with a garlic butter on the bottom, then add some cheese. Next sausage and then more cheese. Finally add the peaches! Oh, and then more garlic butter of course.
The sausage and peach deep dish pizza is now ready for the oven.
Bake the sausage and peach deep dish pizza
Bake in a preheated oven at 425 for about 30 minutes. Then pop it out of the pan.
Let the peach and sausage deep dish pizza cool for about 10 minutes, then add the basil and a drizzle of hot honey.
Beautiful. The perfect summer pizza!
The hot honey is the sweet and spicy ingredient that brings everything together in this pizza.
I could eat this whole thing myself!
Twists and notes on the peach sausage deep dish pizza
I always use this recipe for my deep dish crust. For this version, I made a few changes and cut it down for one crust, but it is always my starting point. I used a mild breakfast sausage for this because I didn’t want it to overpower the rest of the pizza. You could do other sausage if you wanted to though! Anything spicy would be good.

Peach and Sausage Deep Dish Pizza
Ingredients
Crust
- 2 cups flour
- 1/3 cup fine cornmeal
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1.5 teaspoons instant yeast
- 3/4 cups warm water
- 1/4 cup melted butter
- 1/4 cup softened butter
Pizza
- 1/4 cup melted butter
- 3 cloves garlic minced
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon italian seasoning
- 1/2 teaspoon red chili flakes
- pinch of salt
- 1/3 pound cooked sausage mild or breakfast sausage
- 3 ounces shredded mozzarella cheese
- 3 ounces shredded provolone cheese
- 2 ripe peaches sliced thin
- 10 fresh basil leaves
- hot honey
Instructions
- Start the dough – mix the flour, cornmeal, salt, sugar, and yeast in a large bowl or stand mixer to combine. Stir in the warm water and melted butter and knead the dough. Knead about 5 minutes in a mixer, or about 12 minutes with your hands on the counter. Form a ball and coat with oil. Place in a bowl and cover with plastic wrap. Set aside on the counter about 2 hours.
- Roll out the dough very thin. Spread the softened butter evenly on the dough. Roll up the dough into a tight roll, then roll the roll over onto itself to form a spiral. Make sure the outside is coated in the butter as well, and place it into a bowl. Cover with plastic wrap and set aside in the fridge for one hour.
- Preheat oven to 425
- Mix the melted butter with the garlic, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, chili flake, and salt.
- Roll out the dough and add it to a greased 9 inch pan. I like to use springform but any pizza or cake pan should be fine.
- Press the dough into the bottom of the pan making sure the bottom of the dough is thin and flat and the sides are even.
- Brush the garlic butter on the bottom dough. Next add the sausage, then the cheese, then the peaches. Brush more butter on the top of the peaches and the crust sides.
- Cook at 425 for about 30 minutes until the edges are browned.
- Allow to cool for about 10 minutes. Drizzle on the hot honey and add the basil. Slice and serve.
Just made this recipe. The flavor combination was unexpected, but I was curious and had a ton of peaches to play around with. Glad I tried it, because it turned out delicious!
