Star Wars Cheese Balls – BB-8 and a Porg
I had a lot of fun making these Star Wars cheese balls shaped like bb-8 and a porg this past weekend. I was sad that there isn’t a new star wars movie this Christmas like there was the past 3 years, but at least I could celebrate with a little cheesy BB-8!
The idea for this recipe
I realized this might work last week when I saw a cheese ball that looked like a penguin and I started thinking about all sorts to different things I could make. Besides BB and the porg, I also tried to make Jabba but it came out terrible. I needed these to be white but still super flavorful, so I added a bunch of different white ingredients to the cream cheese. White cheddar, parmesan, garlic and onion powder, and white pepper!
Make the accessories for the Star Wars Cheese Balls
I started by making all the little things that will make these cheese balls look the way I wanted them to. The circular cog like things for the sides of BB-8, and of course you cant forget his antenna!
Yellow American cheese makes the designs on BB. Olives for the eyes (are they eyes?) black pepper for the gray markings, and chives for the antenna.
Make the cheese ball mixture
Cream cheese, cheddar, parm, garlic and onion powder, and white pepper. Put it all into the food processor and pulse until smooth.
Start forming the Star Wars Cheese Balls
Form the cheese ball and add the circles. Then dot with some pepper to add dimension. BB-8 has more gray than you might remember.
Finally add the olive and chive to finish it off.
The porg was a little harder because you needed to really sculpt it. The feet are Cheetos. I added the eyes too close together at first but when I moved them apart it really came alive! The gray is black pepper and the brown is almond meal. The nose and mouth are more black olive, and the white in front is brushed to make it look more like feathers.
I really love how these star wars cheese balls came out!
It’s almost sad when you take a cracker and dig into these. The pork seems especially sad, kinda like the way it looked when Chewy was eating his friend.
There is a fast motion video of me making these here, maybe it will help if you are planning to make them.
