Pretzel Bling

Yesterday was the Boston Marathon, an annual day in the city where residents come out in droves to cheer on the runners, thanking them for giving us another excuse to drink all day. But sometimes this personal marathon can be a grueling task of it's own. A salty provision can really go a long way on a hot spring day in the city (Upper 80s!). Luckily I had these pretzels around my neck to keep me going.
A fully risen pretzel dough. Some butchers twine. Make sure it's very secure on the string with minimal creases or it will fall right off in the boiling water. A quick dip before baking. Egg wash and a chile garlic salt I whipped together.  So obviously the money sign is on the left and the cross is mid right, but what are the others? I attempted dog tags on the right but they didn't exactly come out great, and the big circle was supposed to be some sort of a medallion. I need more patience. Yep, I know it's ridiculous. But it's also totally awesome.  This is gonna be my album cover.

In all seriousness, congrats to all the runners. I could never imagine running a marathon, especially with the heat yesterday!
I used this hard pretzels recipe
Also, if you can properly pronounce "pretzlaces" after a few beers, you're a better man than I.

Pretzel Bling

  • Pretzel recipe linked and described above
  • Garlic powder
  • Chile Flake

Instructions

  1. for this recipe. Just make the dough, and roll them out to your liking. Be sure to really secure the dough onto the string before dipping it into the boiling water or it will fall right off. Dip the whole string so it doesn't burn in the oven. Sprinkle with garlic powder and chile flake after boiling, but before baking.
