Because my last quiz was so popular, and also because I am a little behind in the cooking department, I have another one for you all today.  Today’s quiz asks you to guess the cereal name, and mascot name, for each of the cereal mascots below.  There are 20 pictures and therefore 40 available points for correctly naming the mascot shown and what cereal he sold.   Scroll down after the pictures to see the answers.  Some are very obscure and one is fictional so don’t feel bad if you miss some.  Feel free to post your score below if you think you are smart.  If you get above 30, lay off the sugar in the morning! Click below to start the quiz.

The last restaurant standing finale began with Raymond telling the final 2 couples that he would like to take them into his world. And believe me “it is a magical world”.  He explains that the first thing he ever cooked was a disaster.  He made Crêpe Suzette to try and impress his mom, but when he lit it on fire to flambé it, it exploded everywhere.  He now wants the contestants to try and impress his mom as well by opening their restaurants for one night only in a town in France where Raymond grew up and where all his family live.  He wants them to bring a little piece of Britain to France the way he brought France to Britain so long ago.

With only 3 couples remaining on last restaurant standing: Jess/Laura, and Grant/Laura will have to fight it out to see who is making it to the final show.  This episode begins with Raymond telling an endearing story about his childhood and the first time he tasted fine food.  He did not know it then, but this moment would change his life forever.  He tells them he wants them to cook and serve their personal dishes in his restaurant.  After seeing both of the couple’s faces, he then says, this is meant to inspire, not terrify.

If you are here expecting the usual Wednesday LRS review, you are out of luck!  For the 2nd time this season, cable has decided not to work for the show.  This time my cable was fully working but just BBC america was out.  Thanks cablevision!  Anyways, there is a review here if you are interested.

Last night was a great episode of Last Restaurant Standing. With only 4 couples remaining, this elimination challenge was very serious.  Raymond wanted the 2 couples in the challenge to have a singles night at their restaurants.  He would provide 20 single young professionals and they had to find the other 20 themselves. They split up and the twins ended up with Lloyd and Adowa while Jeremy and Jane were chosen by Grant and Laura. Click Below for the rest of the review **SPOILERS**

As fans of TFIMB know, I like to make the occasional quiz for people to send to their friends and challenge each other.  This one popped into my head yesterday and I whipped it up for you all!  Name the celebrity chef or show based on their kitchen or workspace!  sorry some are so blurry! I had to rip a few off you tube.

Score -

0-5 – wonn wonnnnnnn

6-10 – decent

10–13 – prettyyyy prettyyyyyy prettyy good

14-16 – you watch way too much food TV

Click below to start the quiz! But don’t scroll to far down, the answers are down there.

It’s getting serious on Last Restaurant Standing with only four coupes remaining. This week Raymond wants the remaining four restaurants to be the perfect hosts to their guests. “Do something special that makes them feel good and puts a smile on their faces” he says. We begin with everyone receiving a present from Raymond to give them the idea of what it feels like to be treated specially. He wants their guests to feel that way too. If you are a fan of this website, you know there is one couple on Last Restaurant Standing that I continually tease in my reviews.  Well Martin and Emma found me, and asked me why?  Why do I hate them so much?  We emailed back and forth a bit and I grew to actually start liking these people!  I wrote them an email full of interview questions and when I got it back, I realized that they are way cooler than the show made them out to be.  I was even rooting for them last night! (Even though I already knew the outcome!). Today’s post consists of a condensed 2 paragraph reviewcap of the episode, followed by The Food in My Beard exclusive interview with Martin! Click below to continue reading, there ARE SPOILERS for those who have not watched the latest episode.

A slightly shorter review this week because while it was an interesting episode, there was not much to report on because no one did really great or really awful.  The theme for the 5 remaining restaurants this week was branding your establishment and making sure people know what your restaurant is all about when they come in for a meal.  Raymond decided that he would give the teams some direction and tell them that teaching a cooking class would be a helpful way to explain to people about your brand and get the word out.

Last restaurant standing is consistently getting better each episode and this one did not disappoint.  Last nights theme was selling your product.  Different from marketing outside the restaurant like 2 weeks ago, this is marketing inside.  Raymond has a secret ingredient he sends all the restaurants that the need to up sell over the weekend.

Before I start my review today I just wanted to mention 2 things.  1, that happy chicken week will resume tomorrow with a recipe for risotto using that great chicken stock, and 2, that the new season of Top Chef starts tonight on Bravo.  This is hands down the best reality show about food there is on TV. (ha)  Definitely check it out tonight.  I WON’T be reviewing the show because a ton of other sites do including my favorite food blog Serious Eats.  Also because it comes on at 3AM in Bermuda and I have to watch it a day or 2 later.  I will however tell you that without seeing even one episode, or knowing anything about personality, TFIMB dot com is officially supporting Andrew for winner of top chef season 4.  Just look at that formidable beard.

Now on to Last Restaurant Standing!

Last nights episode of last restaurant standing was pretty boring.  I missed the antics of Sam and Jackie but also wanted more people kicked off so we could really get down to the meat of the show.  The problem is they skip around between all the couples too much.  It wasn’t as bad the last 2 weeks cause they just blatantly ignored some couples, but now with 7 left they tried to give them all a piece of the spotlight and it didn’t really work for me.  What I like about the show is it’s focus on the strengths and weaknesses of the different couples and the many beginner mistakes people tend to make.  This episode didn’t really touch deeply into anyone.

Note- This is the second pasta recipe in a short period of time.  I have 3 comments:

1.  We love pasta and make it all the time
2.  I am trying to clear out pictures taken with my old camera
3.  Next week has a theme – “Happy Chicken Week” – no pasta there

Anyways, there are a ton of pictures here, but I couldn’t narrow them down any further cause this was an awesome night and a great meal.  We cooked for almost 4 hours then watched a foodie movie.  What more can you ask for?

This is a direct recipe from Giada De Laurentiis.  You can find it here on the food network website and in her cookbook “Everyday Pasta.”  I am going to explain the recipe as we go today.

I had a great time at the Bermuda gourmet getaway this past weekend. Mandi and I went to “Grillin & Chillin” on Saturday night and the Viking Village on Sunday afternoon to see the finals of the Escoffier cup. If you want my opinion on both of these events, and a few pictures, click below to continue reading. If you don’t, why are you here?

Last night was the Challenge episode of LRS where one team would have to go home.  The challenge was between jazz lovers Jackie and Sam, mother and son Tom and Nicola, and the team I hate Martin and Emma.  The Challenge this week was to turn a profit working a cafeteria lunch for scientists at their lab.  The couples had some members of winning teams helping out and would each have a station at the cafeteria.  There were 800 scientists working there and it was up to them which food they would choose to purchase.

My favorite nerd webcomic xkcd has a great food entry today.  I do agree to some extent and have always thought about this ratio but never had the idea to graph it.  The problem with grapefruit for me is its goodness percentage, when it is good its great, but I can never seem to pick the best ones

The second episode of last restaurant standing was on last night. The show is pretty good for the same reasons most reality shows are; a few people that are really good at what they are doing, and a bunch of other wackos.

I am currently reading Rant: An Oral Biography of Buster Casey By Chuck Palahniuk. Yesterday morning there was a chapter all about food.  I couldn’t help but post some of it up for everyone to read.

I actually think this is particularly funny because I make 800 tortellini’s ever year for my family’s Christmas Eve dinner.  Every year I want to hide something in one of them, maybe a chile pepper, or peanut butter and jelly.  Then if someone gets it, they win a prize.   Maybe this has inspired me to actually do it this year……

Three reasons why Chuck Palahniuk and / or Doubleday publishing should NOT sue me or ask me to take this down:

1. I am only putting 4 pages up here.  It isn’t even a whole chapter!  There are no give aways or plot spoilers.

2. I don’t have ad’s up on the site (yet) so I am not making money off of this, nor am I impeding on you making money.  No one will read this and be like “whelp, I don’t need to read THAT book anymore.”  If anything they will want to read it more, which leads me into:

3. BUY THIS BOOK!!    It is really good so far.  I was really into Chuck for awhile but was not a huge fan of Diary or Haunted so I didn’t have high hopes for rant.  Luckily someone on my design team gave it to me for Christmas.  Now I can’t put it down.

Anyways, click below to read the excerpt

Everyone watch the premiere of Last Restaurant Standing tonight on BBC America.  If its any good, I will review it weekly.  I have high hopes for it mainly because I like most food related things on that channel.  Also because I want a new show to watch.

Check out this video for a new web series "cooking with coolio" (Really???)   yes. really.  this might be nsfw depending on where you work and if you use headphones so continue with caution. In this episode, he makes a caprese salad.  "betta use your own spoon girl, I don’t know where your mouth's been."

Tonight I will be making a large batch of pizza dough while watching Last Restaurant Standing because we are having a pizza party Friday night so expect some good pic's from that early next week.

This may be a fairly obvious post to alot of people, but it is fresh in my mind because I watched No Reservations last night. If you don't watch this show, you should! No celebrity chef has more balls than he does. He travels to all sorts of locations, some standard travel show locales, some crazy. Last night he was in Uzbekistan (a Re-Run). Really?? Uzbekistan?? There is also an episode where he travels around the Portland area with author Chuck Palahniuk. I mean there really is no way I can describe this show to give it justice. All I can say is Monday nights on the Travel Channel.
