Korean Spicy Marinated Pork

I ate this meal last weekend late night in Chinatown. Some of the best meals seem to be when I least expect them. The meal is actually very simple to make, the hardest part is finding the red pepper paste. It is sort of the pork version of bulgogi, in fact, the Korean name of the dish is "Daeji Bulgogi". In Chinatown, I skipped all the veggies and just ate the meat piece by piece with my chopsticks(It was late. hah). Making it myself, I decided to have it the way they had meant for me to eat it.

I made some quick pickled carrots to go in the lettuce wraps. Just pour hot vinegar, water, salt, and sugar over these.

This is that hard to find pepper paste. It's so tasty!

Pork marinade.

To slice the pork nice and thin, throw it in the freezer for 15 minutes before slicing.

Just dump the pork, marinade and all, into the skillet. Normally I would like to sear things, but most of the recipes I saw did it this way, and it came out great. I think I would like to try this again though with bigger chunks of meat and put them on the grill.

Served with lettuce to make little taco wraps.

Super delicious.

No joke, I probably ate 15 of these.

I pretty much followed a recipe on this one! Crazy huh?

This looks ultra tasty! And lucky for me, I have everything but the pork!

That really does look good.

So when you say you skipped all the veggies, how was it originally served, with the veggies marinated/cooked with the pork, steamed, etc? This looks tasty, but I'd definitely want some more vegetal matter (and tofu obviously).

OMG!

I used to get the spicy pork dish all the time when I was in Korea...it was my favorite! The place I ate at didn't do the lettuce wrap thing though....

That paste is called "go chu jang" and is very tasty!

Make your own life easier take the loans and all you want.

Dude, you gotta try the pork belly version of this dish. But it's gotta be grilled, preferably over charcoal. The lettuce wrap with thinly sliced fresh garlic/hot pepper, a piece of kimchi, or a tiny smear of extra go-chu-jang may change your life.
