Last night on Last Restaurant Standing, the remaining couples were split into 3 teams to run some chain restaurants for the day.My theory is Raymond and company could only secure 6 storefronts, so they had to cut 3 couples before moving the show into the individual restaurants. The places they took over this week were referred to as "high street chains". Asian and pizza which I believe would be compared to P.F. Changs and California Pizza in the US, as opposed to Pizza hut and Panda express. There was a third place, sushi, which got me thinking, are there any sushi chains like that in the US???
At the Asian restaurant, JJ, having his first ever restaurant kitchen experience, was teamed up with Chris, who has 20 something years of experience. With all the criticism the show seemed to place on JJ, I thought he did alright for having zero experience. A funny moment occurred when James asked JJ to hurry up a bit and JJ made this face for about 13 seconds:
One of JJ and James main problems was James blamed JJ for all of their troubles. Had he been a better host and managed expectations, it wouldn't have been as big of a disaster. Despite this disaster, JJ and James are safe this week. I am pretty sure this is because the judges want to see just how ridiculous they are going to get with their picnic themed restaurant.
The team that got the sushi place seemed to have it easiest to me. Less heavy on orders, just fill up the sushi-go-round and you will be all set. Then we learn that 2 of the 3 cooks have never even TRIED sushi. What the whaaaatttttttt?!?!?!? Get real people. David Moore told Rebecca that she needed to have knowledge of the ingredients in order to serve them and made her taste the sushi. This was a nice little scene where we really got to see her personality. I haven't liked Rebecca and Stephen so far on this show, but her conversation in this scene made me start to root for these underdogs.
Lunch went really well for this team, but dinner was a disaster. A few orders up front cause the conveyer belt to empty and stay that way all night. There were some highlights, Sarah noticed Lucy working hard as a waitress. Earlier in the episode they mentioned that she has experience.
The Pizza team failed on lunch AND diner. They started well at both services, but things quickly deteriorated. They were putting out some really sloppy pizzas and missing the mark completely with the toppings. Sarah asked which pizzas she couldn't eat if she had a nut allergy, and Sean pointed out two pizzas that had nuts in them. At dinner Sean is seen pounding beers. I can't blame him, cause I have been known to pound beers while I am making pizza, but come on guy. Sarah asks Janet how service is going, and she is completely delusional. She acts like everything is going great and even says that she has heard praises from patrons! At the end of the night they send people home without food after they have been sitting at the restaurant for over an hour. It's no surprise that Janet and Sean are sent home to their London flower shop.
Another great episode for the 3rd season of LRS! I am excited to see the restaurants next week! Do you guys have favorite couples yet?
