Meatloaf for Mad Men

There are only a few things I am really into besides food. If you read this blog a lot, you probably know what they are. One is music, and the other is TV. Not flip through the channels reality NCIS type TV. Quality scripted comedys, dramas, and dramedies (yes, I love that word.) I am really pumped at the moment, because one of the best shows on TV right now is making a triumphant return this weekend. I am of course talking about Mad Men. I can't wait to check up on Don, Betty, Pegs, Pete, Rodger, and Joan. What have you guys been up to? Where have you been? It's been a whole year since I have last caught up with them! I almost couldn't remember what had happened last. Luckily, Steph and I got together last night to watch the last few episodes and reacquaint ourselves with the plot line. Of course we had to make a 1960s-esque meal to keep the theme going.

You can't have a Mad Men night without a few Old Fashioneds. More on this later.

Yum. This meal was inspired by a meatloaf I saw on a re-run of Everyday Italian yesterday afternoon.

Wrapped in Pancetta.

Amazing. 1960, I am SO over you.

Bitters are not used much these days, but they are tasty! Let's bring them back. This never happened, it will SHOCK you how much this never happened.

An Old Fashioned is just whiskey with a splash of the following: bitters, simple syrup, and lemon. You could throw in a cherry if that's what you are into, but I don't think Don was into that kind of thing.

Super 60's garnish

Here is a pic of me and Don chillin'.

Wrapping things in bacon is always a good idea.

It's not called the wheel, it's called the carousel.

Yum, this isn't Betty's meatloaf.

It didn't really photograph that well, but it was tasty. The sauce was just some garlic and pepper flakes in olive oil, add a can of tomatoes, some salt and Parmesan and call it a day.

Go back up to that pic with all the labels. Add all that stuff and shape it like a log. Put it on top of spread out panchetta and wrap it up B. Oven for 45 minutes at 375. Here is the recipe it was inspired by.

PS. I didn't get paid by them or anything, I just really love the show!  I even dressed up like them for Halloween last year.   I was an ok Don, but Mandi made an EXCELLENT Betty.

Mad Men is awesome. Nice photoshop work... HA

You had me at the Maker's Mark.

oh good lord I think I'm in love with you.

My grandmother's (rest in peace) meatloaf was the most amazing thing ever. I only once had the pleasure of being instructed in her kitchen on how to create it.

She would make some serious waves right now (her ashes were scattered at sea) for me saying this, but I think yours looks better.

*ducks flying seaweed*

One of the best nights ever.

I am enjoying leftovers right now at my work desk.

Makers Mark is now my drink of choice. Delishiousness.

I've never really liked Meatloaf, but because of what you put in it and the fact that you wrapped it in bacon, I think I would've liked that.

oh my yummm!!

i seriously do not like meatloaf, never have, but I think I could definitely devour this!

This meatloaf looks much more appetizing than Giada's.

Where was the egg? What? You did not need it because you held the loaf together with parmesan and pancetta? That is just innovative! This is the most awesome "meatloaf" I have ever seen.

Interesting putting squash in there...did it make the meatloaf bleed water? A similar experience happened to me...the squash's inner water came out and flooded my meat!

Meatloaf is awesome. I would like to see it the next day, in a sandwich! You are right that everything is better with bacon, moreso because of the pancetta. I am drooling looking at it, and now I think I know what to serve tonight for dinner.

dan i dont think your little jab to betty's meatloaf was very nice! haha but this looks so amazing! i havent seen the premier yet but cant wait to get home tonight and watch it!!!

belated happy birthdays to richie and kim! hope you had fun at the beach and miss you much!
