I decided to grow some plants in my backyard.  I have always wanted to, and a combination of being an impulsive dude, the right time of year, a beautiful day, and reading this article (I’m reading his book at the moment) made me run out and get some containers and seedlings.  Suddenly I had a small garden.  Now I am by no means an expert on this, I’ve never done this before.   But I still wanted to post up some pictures because I think these plants are beautiful.  Also to show people who think they don’t have enough space and expertise that it is really not that hard.  its not too late either!

All the seedlings lined up

Tomatoes

Basil

Oregano

Thyme

I got these 2 planters for the Herbs.  I know miracle grow isn’t really the most natural route, but again, this is my first time and also they didn’t really have any options.

Left to right: Basil, Thai basil, Mint, Chives.  I know these may be a bit too close together, but I am going to take some out.  I just wanted to plant them all incase some weren’t healthy.  (yea can you tell its my first time?)

The other container has oregano,

Cilantro

And thyme

These are the huge things I got for the tomatoes.  Tomatoes have huge roots and need a lot of space.  After reading a lot online I decided I could plant 2 tomato plants in each of these.  I made a bunch of holes in the pots to allow for plenty of drainage.

Hot peppers

You will notice I planted the tomatoes really deep in the soil.  This is because the stem will grow roots and the plant will be extra healthy. (Or so I read)

After only a few days time, all of the plants were looking 10 times better!  I have been carrying them out to the front in the mornings and back to the yard in the afternoon to get optimal sunlight.  They also seem to need water every day that it doesn’t rain.

They are clearly much bigger and brighter.  They perked way up.

In a few weeks, I will update you as I put in something to support the tomatoes and peppers and let everyone know how it is going.  For now, here are some of the sites where I got info from.
